Two products. One question: do your users need to work during an outage event?

This page compares our own developed and operated StrataMX Backup and StrataMail Email Continuity services. StrataMX provides a delivery queue; StrataMail adds a separately configured user mailbox. These are separate from the native queue or browser continuity supplied by SpamWeeder Premium, VIPRE and Proofpoint Essentials filtering.

Choose Backup MX Services If…

StrataMX Backup is the right choice when:

  • Your users can tolerate waiting for mail until the primary server recovers
  • Outage events are infrequent and typically short — maintenance windows, brief ISP issues
  • You want the lowest-cost protection layer for a domain
  • The customer has no spam filter and needs simple DNS-based fallback (Config C)
  • You are protecting a domain where mail volume is low and no one will notice a brief delay
  • Budget is the primary constraint and read/reply during an outage event is not required

StrataMX Backup holds accepted mail during a temporary destination outage, within the configured service limits. Your users just have to wait for recovery to see their mail.

Choose Email Continuity If…

StrataMail Email Continuity is the right choice when:

  • Users need to read and respond to email during an outage event — not just after
  • The domain belongs to a business where email downtime has direct operational impact
  • You are protecting domains on M365, Google Workspace, or Exchange where users expect continuous access
  • You are performing an M365 tenant-to-tenant migration and need mail capture and access during the DNS propagation window
  • You want a separate mailbox with IMAP/SMTP or webmail access, beyond any browser continuity already included with your filter
  • You want to offer a premium, white-labeled service that commands higher customer pricing
  • Outage events — however rare — cannot be allowed to disrupt user productivity

Email Continuity protects both your reputation with senders and your users' ability to work — users can work through the continuity account prepared for their team.

The Delivery Configuration Factor

Choose the service by whether you need a queue or an accessible mailbox. Your existing filter affects how we configure the route, rather than deciding which service you must buy:

Your Setup Service decision How It Works
SpamWeeder PremiumQueue or mailbox, according to your needsSpamWeeder has its own browser continuity. Add our mailbox only when you need its independent access or capture design; configure and test the integration separately.
Proofpoint Essentials, VIPRE or another filterQueue or mailbox, according to your needsCompare the filter's included outage features with the separate access you need. Confirm a supported capture, delivery and recovery design before adding our service.
No spam filterQueue or separately configured mailboxChoose StrataMX for a queue or StrataMail for a separately configured mailbox. DNS fallback alone supplies no user inbox.

A filtering service and a continuity mailbox are separate purchases. Our engineers check recipient handling, the message-copy path, outage routing and user access for the chosen setup. Do not add a second service merely to obtain a browser inbox already included in your filtering plan.
